Danny Lee is a cop who after meticulously working to take down a crime boss, ends up outsmarted. Further more his undercover buddy is victimised while the crime lord goes scot free. Unable to be supported on the force by his jealous boss, he quits and takes help from a street smart Wong Jing to avenge his partner.

On the onset the film starts of as one of Wong Jing's crazy senseless plots. But despite it's flaws, there is a lot of creative humor and fun to be had. Typical Danny Lee's 'cop style' plot is uniquely blended in with Wong Jing's favourite gambling plots. Surprisingly the villian, despite the evil and agressive cliche, is written with a believable and natural behaviour unlike some video game boss.

There are lot of gaps in the way the movie is directed, but in the end it all boils down to how engaging it keeps the viewer. These gaps can easily be overlooked to enjoy the nice little blend of action, comedy and gamblers style. It also has an unusually high amount of violence compared to his other films. Most of Wong Jings movies tend to go overboard with the whackyness to the point of annoyance. This one avoids that fully and paired with Danny Lee's Cop genre, it has a special style.

Danny Lee is great and plays his trademark honest and solid cop. Wong Jing is surprsingly charming and keeps the movie very engaging. I never thought, I'd say it but yeah, Wong Jing is fun to watch in this one. Together they make a nice pairing, you never knew you needed. Lung Fong is awesome as the shrewd villian. He's played a lot of variations on this role. He can be sleezy, cunning, smart, comical and yet be the same guy in the suit. So long as an intricate role is not expected, he's a great plug and play movie villain. Joey Wong is almost a cameo, just to keep the hero company.

The production is great, although not as well as some other Wong Jing's worse films. I never understand how Wong Jing's movies are funded. Many of his worst movies have great budget and the lower budget ones are way more intriguing. The ambience and tone are nevertheless very good.

This film is simply a great blend of all the retro feels of the 80's and 90's HK films. It has a little bit of action, great comedy, gory crazy violence, creative ideas sprinkled in a plot filled with loopholes. It has oodles of the whackyness of that time. Though it may be a bit daunting for new viewer, its a odd title that you must watch if you are a fan of this genre.
